Donald Trump’s National Enquirer scandal is about to get very ugly for Ivanka Trump

It’s fitting that Donald Trump is being taken down partly thanks to his decision to conspire with the National Enquirer, considering that the people who think his lies are true tend to be the same people who think the National Enquirer is legitimate. Now that the tabloid’s boss David Pecker has flipped on Trump, we’ve expected the current scandal to get even worse. Now there’s confirmation that it’s about to get much worse – and it’s about to land on the heads of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.

Up to now, the primary focus has been on the plot between Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, and David Pecker to buy the silence of Trump’s mistresses during the election, in a transaction which violated federal campaign finance laws. It’s also known that Pecker was exclusively buying up negative stories about Trump and his family, never running them, and stashing the evidence in a safe. Now that Pecker has flipped, the question has been whether the dirt in that safe was merely embarrassing, or evidence of criminal activity on Trump’s part.

Former National Enquirer Deputy Editor Jerry George appeared on MSNBC today with Ari Melber to discuss the matter. George is in position to know precisely the kinds of stories that the Enquirer was catching and killing about the Trump family. He stated that, in his view, some of the dirt about Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner involves criminal behavior, or close to criminal behavior.

That means that, ever since David Pecker cut his cooperation deal months ago, the SDNY has had access to this information. That means prosecutors have had time to research this dirt and build it into the indictments they’re surely readying against Ivanka and Kushner. It also means that this dirt, which Jerry George says is “embarrassing” in addition to being criminal, will become public knowledge. That will make things far worse for the mounting Trump family criminal scandals in the court of public opinion.
