There’s no more sure sign that a regime is about to fall than when its biggest players start jumping ship, its biggest cheerleaders start to publicly distance themselves from it, and its former players race in to say “I told you so.” When it comes to Donald Trump, today’s the day. His ship is sinking, everyone around him knows it, and they’re all making moves accordingly.

First there was Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff John Kelly. This morning we learned that he and Trump are no longer on speaking terms, and that Kelly is planning to “resign” within the next few days (translation: get fired). Then this afternoon we learned the real reason Kelly is out: he secretly gave up Trump to Robert Mueller sometime within the past few months. Oops. Then Trump’s day got worse.

Donald Trump’s former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who once famously called Trump a “f*cking moron,” but who has stayed out of the spotlight since resigning, publicly criticized Trump today. This sent Trump into a surreal meltdown, calling Tillerson “dumb as a rock” and “lazy as hell” among other insults. For Trump, the hits just keep coming.

Last night Rudy Giuliani began trying to publicly distance himself from Donald Trump’s failed criminal defense strategy, which is noteworthy, considering that Rudy is Trump’s criminal defense lawyer. And if you want proof that the sky is falling, Fox News pundit Andrew Napolitano now says he thinks Donald Trump Jr will be indicted, and Fox News host Tucker Carlson is now calling Trump a failure. Everyone is trying to get off this ship at once.
