Everyone piles on after Donald Trump’s delusional meltdown
All that Donald Trump had to do to keep his scandals from getting full airtime yesterday was to shut up, and let the media focus on the late President George H.W. Bush instead. But he couldn’t do that, and so last night he began bragging about a fake poll that claims he has a 50% approval rating. The media mostly didn’t take the bait, though. So today, Trump took things even further by deciding that his “real” approval rating is at 75%.
For reference, here’s what Donald Trump tweeted today: “Without the phony Russia Witch Hunt, and with all that we have accomplished in the last almost two years (Tax & Regulation Cuts, Judge’s, Military, Vets, etc.) my approval rating would be at 75% rather than the 50% just reported by Rasmussen. It’s called Presidential Harassment!” Oh boy, this is weird. For starters, he’s referring to a Rasmussen poll, which is notoriously illegitimate. Then he’s adding on an extra 25 points just for kicks. The responses to Trump’s tweet largely consisted of everyone laughing at him.
This is in addition to the fact that none of his listed “accomplishments” are seen as accomplishments. His tax scam for the wealthy has harmed the economy, and even the stock market is giving up on him. His approval rating within the military keeps dropping, as he screws up the VA even worse than ever, and he sends troops to the border for a political stunt. And of course his use of “Judge’s” reveals that he still doesn’t know how apostrophes work.
But the real upshot here is that, in the midst of one of the worst weeks any “President” of the United States has ever had, Donald Trump isn’t focused on trying to save himself from his worsening criminal scandals. Instead he’s soothing himself with comforting delusions about how he’s somehow more popular and beloved than ever.
