Anyone who’s not a part of Donald Trump’s deranged base is well aware that he constantly lies and makes things up. That’s created a number of problems, not only for him, but for the people working under him. Now that one of Trump’s fish stories has resulted in legal action, Trump’s own Department of Justice is being forced to admit that Trump is a liar as its last line of defense.

Donald Trump’s lies about FISA eavesdropping warrant abuse have led to outside legal action to try to force the Department of Justice to release the real story. Of course the DOJ never wants to do that kind of thing, as every aspect of the FISA is supposed to remain secret.

So on Friday, the DOJ made a court filing arguing that because Trump just makes up these false claims out of thin air anyway, there is no compelling need to make public the FISA details in question. Check out the verbiage involved. Brad Heath of USA Today flagged this stunning passage in the DOJ filing: “The President’s quotation of media reporting cannot be assumed to be his confirmation of the media reporting based on government information, and is not evidence of government misconduct in this case.”

Again, this sentence was written by Donald Trump’s own Department of Justice. They’re flat out admitting that he tweets dubious news articles and tries to make it look like he’s confirming them based on inside knowledge that he doesn’t even have. They’re literally arguing that the entire litigation should be put to bed because it’s being fought over a fake scandal that doesn’t exist, because Trump was just making things up and spreading lies about it.
