Donald Trump swings and misses

Now that Robert Mueller is closing in, and the Democrats are about to take control of the House, Donald Trump suddenly seems awfully interested in prison reform. There are two obvious reasons for this. First, he’s hoping to prove to average Americans that he’s capable of bipartisanship, by siding with liberals on this issue. Second, Trump is clearly hoping that prison reform will result in reduced prison sentences for him and his family. So he took a swing at it this morning, and missed rather hilariously.

Donald Trump posted this tweet today, which was actually his second attempt at it: “Really good Criminal Justice Reform has a true shot at major bipartisan support. @senatemajldr Mitch McConnell and @SenSchumer have a real chance to do something so badly needed in our country. Already passed, with big vote, in House. Would be a major victory for ALL!”

The first time around, Trump misspelled “passed” as “past” – and he unwittingly tagged a Chuck Schumer parody account. Should we care that Trump is semi-illiterate and doesn’t understand how Twitter works? Perhaps not. But it’s a sign that, even with the nearly limitless personnel resources available to him, Trump is still being as sloppy and lazy as ever.

This isn’t a guy who has some detailed master plan to save himself. We’ve already seen him swing and miss by installing the toilet scam guy at the Department of Justice, which has brought him numerous headaches and no detectable advantage. Now he’s swinging and missing by trying to reach across the aisle, only to trip and fall down so badly, all anyone can talk about is what a buffoon he is.
