Last night, Palmer Report addressed why House Democratic leaders like Nancy Pelosi aren’t talking publicly about immediately starting the impeachment process against Donald Trump. In short: the point is to use the process itself to destroy Trump and force his ouster, and the best way to make that work is to use committee power to weaken Trump first. But that political reality doesn’t prevent the rest of the Democrats in the House from calling it exactly like it’s going to go.

Enter Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell, who doesn’t hold an official House Democratic leadership position, but who has nonetheless recently come to national prominence due in part to his role on the House Intel Committee, which has been tasked with investigating Trump-Russia. Yesterday morning, Donald Trump posted an absolutely idiotic tweet, and Swalwell used it as an opportunity to spell out what’s coming.

In response to the devastating fires in California, Trump ignorantly tweeted “With proper Forest Management, we can stop the devastation constantly going on in California. Get Smart!” This prompted Eric Swalwell to fire back: “You fund forest management. But not for much longer. Change is coming to America.”

So there it is. In her upcoming role as Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi can’t start off by flat out stating that she’s going to oust Donald Trump. For that matter, incoming House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler can’t say it either. It’s more effective for the leadership to paint itself as judicious at the start of the process. But other prominent House Democrats like Eric Swalwell and Maxine Waters are free to say whatever they want – and Swalwell just flat out stated that Trump won’t be in office for much longer.
