Roger Stone tries to take his last stand and falls down

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

This week we saw the publication of mutually incriminating emails between Roger Stone and Steve Bannon, which confirmed that Stone was indeed conspiring with WikiLeaks on Donald Trump’s behalf during the election, and that Bannon โ€“ who was the head of the Trump campaign at the time โ€“ knew all about it. We also learned that Bannon recently testified to Special Counsel Robert Mueller about Stone.

It’s not difficult to figure out how this is likely to go. Robert Mueller is preparing to criminally indict and arrest Roger Stone on various charges, including conspiracy against the United States. Mueller is also using Bannon’s apparent cooperativeness to get to Stone as soon as possible. Although there’s every reason to expect Bannon to be indicted in the end, Mueller is clearly more interested in taking Stone down right now. Stone isn’t exactly taking the news well โ€“ or coherently.

Roger Stone can’t seem to make up his mind whether to fight back in the court of public opinion, or to give up and just goof off for the rest of his limited remaining time as a free man. For instance, Stone launched a vicious attack on Instagram against respected reporter Natasha Bertrand, accusing her of being a “left fiction writer” and whining that “her latest hatchet job on me is riddled with inaccuracies and out right false hoods.” Of course Stone didn’t bother to specify what parts of the reporting are supposed to be false. Also, “falsehoods” is one word. Why is it that no one in Donald Trump’s circle is any better than semi-literate?

But the truly strange part is what Roger Stone is doing when he’s not making up lies about reporters. Earlier today he posted an image of a bowl full of faces of Larry from the Three Stooges, labeling it a “bowl of Larrys.” Who sits around making jokes like this online when they’re weeks, maybe days, away from being arrested on too many felony counts to list? Roger Stone’s last stand appears to more or less consist of falling down.
