Budweiser, Google, Coca-Cola Super Bowl ads send message to Donald Trump: Screw you!
At a time when Donald Trump’s illegitimate and divisive occupation of the White House has made everything in America politically charged, it turns out the Super Bowl has been no different. Major corporations are paying millions of dollars each to run commercials during the game, and one after another, those ads are serving as a defiant “screw you” to Trump and his racist policies.
First came a Super Bowl ad from Coca-Cola, which started off with people singing a song of harmony in Spanish language, a clear rejection of Donald Trump’s demonization of Mexicans and immigrants. Then came an ad for Google Home which delivered the same kind of message. But the biggest screw-you to Trump is expected to come from Anheuser-Busch, which will run a Budweiser ad pointing out that its own company founder was an immigrant, in direct defiance of Trump’s attempt at banning Muslim immigrants from entering the United States.

Meanwhile, other aspects of the Super Bowl have also taken on a general theme in opposition to Donald Trump and his policies. The pre-game honorees were the cast of Hamilton, who previously delivered a harsh rebuke to Trump’s sidekick Mike Pence when he made the mistake of attending the Broadway play after the election. And the halftime performance will come from Lady Gaga, who actively campaigned against Trump during the election and has consistently stood up for the civil rights of the people Trump is trying to target. And the bad news for Trump keeps coming.
Even as Donald Trump has made a big deal out of being friends with the key figures of the New England Patriots, it turns out they’re losing the game thus far in the first half. Political figures like Bill Maher have said they’re rooting for the Atlanta Falcons just to stick it to Trump, and thus far they’re getting their wish.
