Donald Trump can’t even be bothered

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

One of the scariest parts of being stuck with an illegitimate and criminal “President” of the United States like Donald Trump: what happens when a national emergency requires him to step up and actually try to do the job. As one might have been able to predict, Trump isn’t even bothering to step up today.

Yes, after Trump supporter Cesar Sayoc was arrested today for sending bombs to several prominent Democratic political figures, Donald Trump delivered a few generic sentences of condemnation during a pre-scheduled media event. But then he took things in such a partisan direction, the attendees at his event began chanting “lock him up” in reference to George Soros, one of the bomber’s targets. Trump then repeated “lock him up” himself. But it gets even worse.

Imagine for a minute that someone had tried to kill George W. Bush and some Republicans in Congress while Barack Obama was the President. In such case, Obama would have certainly reached out directly to the targets, because that’s what the President does, and it has nothing to do with what side of the aisle anyone is on. Yet when Trump was asked by reporters outside the White House whether he plans to call any of the bomber’s targets, he said he’ll “pass.” No really, he said that.

That’s right, Donald Trump can’t even be bothered to make phone calls to people like President Obama or Hillary Clinton, even after someone tried to murder them. Worse, one of Trump’s own supporters tried to murder them. Here’s the kicker. Imagine if this bomber had been targeting Trump’s political allies. You can bet Trump would have picked up the phone in that case. For him, even an act of terrorism like this is nothing more than a partisan wedge issue.
