Amid FBI investigation, Brett Kavanaugh’s old friends confirm he committed felony perjury

This evening we learned that, thanks to the newly ordered FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, the FBI is now free to criminally pursue Kavanaugh for any perjury he committed during his Senate testimony. Even before Dr. Ford and others came forward, we saw Kavanaugh get caught lying under oath about stolen emails and a judge he once clerked for. Now some of Kavanaugh’s own friends are reluctantly coming forward to confirm that he perjured himself in other ways.

Liz Swisher, an old friend of Brett Kavanaugh from college, is telling this to the Washington Post tonight: “Brett was a sloppy drunk, and I know because I drank with him … it’s not credible for him to say that he has had no memory lapses in the nights that he drank to excess.” Another old friend of Kavanaugh, Lynne Brookes, who identifies as a Republican, is also confirming that he’s lying about his drinking: “You can’t lie your way onto the Supreme Court, and with that statement out, he’s gone too far.”

Both women then appeared on the Lawrence O’Donnell show on MSNBC. Swisher stated on-air that Kavanaugh “was clearly lying” about his drinking. She also stated that she knew the second Kavanaugh accuser Deborah Ramirez, and that she believes her. Swisher and Brookes both stated that they are willing to testify to the FBI about this.

The problem for Brett Kavanaugh isn’t simply that he drank too much in his youth; that’s true about plenty of people. It’s that he made a point of repeatedly and specifically lying about it under oath, which is a felony. Even if the FBI can’t prove within the next seven days that Kavanaugh committed these numerous alleged acts of sexual assault and attempted rape, it can nail him for perjury.
