Donald Trump finds a new way to embarrass himself after people start dying in Hurricane Florence
Unfortunately, Hurricane Florence has officially turned deadly. Even as the death toll in the southeastern United States continues to climb today, Donald Trump hasn’t tweeted a word of acknowledgement or condolences. After remaining silent all day, he did finally address the hurricane this afternoon. However, he simply used it as an offensive exercise in narcissism.
For a minute there, it looked like Donald Trump might actually try to say the right thing. He thanked New York City for sending people down south to help with hurricane relief. Then he retweeted an important evacuation message from the North Carolina state government. But then he decided that those five minutes of doing the right thing were too much, and so he decided to make it all about himself.
Donald Trump posted this quote from his FEMA Director Brock Long: “We (@FEMA) have never had the support that we have had from this President.” Trump then added “Thank you Brock – it is my honor!” That’s right, even as Americans are dying in this storm, instead of acknowledging them, he’s busy posting butt-kissing quotes from his own underlings. Two minutes later, Trump began tweeting endorsements for GOP Congressmen in Texas and Pennsylvania running for reelection, as if to drive home the point that this day is all about him and his partisan allies, not the Americans who just died on his watch.
Not only has Donald Trump failed to address the Hurricane Florence deaths, he also still has yet to tweet about the Paul Manafort plea deal, or the Brett Kavanaugh rape scandal. It’s as if he has no interest in any of the negative things happening to him personally or to America in general, and instead he’s only interested in heaping praise on himself and giving shout-outs to the politicians who are still trying to prop him up as he circles the drain. This is just embarrassing.
