There are a whole lot of people across social media who think that the author of tonight’s 25th Amendment op-ed about Donald Trump was written by none other than Mike Pence. Palmer Report has already gone through the process of narrowing down the list of potential authors, and it is indeed very possible that Pence is involved. There are three specific reasons why the internet thinks it’s Pence.

The first is that the op-ed uses the word “lodestar.” That word is so rare, most of you have never heard it until now. But someone dug up the fact that several of Mike Pence’s past remarks have included that word, and it’s quickly been passed around social media by so many people, it’s not even clear who originally discovered it. In any case, it’s a big clue. Really, it means only one of two things is realistically possible. Either Pence had a hand in writing this op-ed, or the real author purposely included the word “lodestar” to make people think Pence wrote it.

The second clue here is that shortly before the New York Times op-ed about the 25th Amendment was released, Mike Pence made a point of publicly lending his support to Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Is this just a grand coincidence, or did Pence and Sessions write this op-ed as part of a plot to oust Trump?

The third clue is the most straightforward one. Mike Pence stands the most to gain if the 25th Amendment is invoked, for obvious reasons. Pence is also literally the only person in the Trump administration who can’t be fired by Donald Trump, meaning that Pence wouldn’t have to worry about job security if his identity is discovered. We’re not saying Pence was the author. We’re just saying that the internet has three good reasons for thinking it’s Pence.
