Rudy Giuliani flips out after latest Trump-Russia guilty plea
Even though most people had never heard of Republican political operative Samuel Patten prior to his guilty plea today in the Trump-Russia scandal, his plea deal is nonetheless a big deal when it comes to following the money from the Kremlin to Donald Trump’s pocket. Trump’s criminal defense attorney Rudy Giuliani was asked about the matter today, and suffice it to say that it wasn’t exactly his most shining moment.
Patten confessed to several Trump-Russia crimes as part of his plea deal, including facilitating a secret $50,000 donation from Kremlin representatives to the Donald Trump inaugural committee. This throws open the door for Mueller to follow the money when it comes to the numerous suspicious donations that were made to the Trump inauguration, many of which were never accounted for. But don’t tell that to Rudy, who has an entirely different take on what we all saw play out today.
Rudy Giuliani spoke to the television cameras this evening while standing in a hallway, and the footage was aired on CNN. Rudy’s take: “It turned out to be this irrelevant indictment, where I think Mueller has turned into the private prosecutor. What does this have to do with President Trump? Not a single thing.” At this point Giuliani went bug eyed. He then continued: “Some guy who donated to the inauguration? My goodness, there were about five hundred thousand people who donated to President Trump’s [unintelligible]. Every time they get a speeding ticket, the Special Prosecutor’s going to do it.”
There’s a lot to unpack here. We don’t even understand the “private prosecutor” reference, and it’s humorous that Rudy Giuliani still thinks Robert Mueller is a “Special Prosecutor” instead of a “Special Counsel.” What stands out is that Rudy is now trying to write off felonies as mere speeding tickets. He also may end up regretting the reference to all the other Trump inauguration donations, because that’s surely where Mueller is looking next.
