In addition to being a career criminal, a traitor, a mentally unstable malignant narcissist, a racist, and a serial sexual assaulter, Donald Trump is also a former reality show host. Perhaps that’s why he seems to think that, in his darkest hour, with his own criminal henchmen cutting plea deals against him by the day, he could somehow find the answer by asking the audience or phoning a friend.

Last week we saw Donald Trump ask his favorite propagandist Sean Hannity in particular, and his Twitter followers in general, whether he should revoke the security clearance of former CIA official Philip Mudd, as punishment for Mudd’s commentary on CNN. Now he’s at it again, but this time he’s focused in on asking a certain “friend” for help. The trouble: that friend is Attorney General Jeff Sessions, the kind of guy who would beat a friend to death with a rolled up newspaper just to get a better table at a restaurant.

Some have characterized Donald Trump’s Twitter rant about Jeff Sessions as threatening, but we see it as something closer to begging. Here’s what Trump tweeted: “Jeff Sessions said he wouldn’t allow politics to influence him only because he doesn’t understand what is happening underneath his command position. Highly conflicted Bob Mueller and his gang of 17 Angry Dems are having a field day as real corruption goes untouched. No Collusion!” Trump then went on to invent a phony conspiracy between Hillary Clinton and the FBI, implying that Sessions should launch a phony investigation into it.

But Jeff Sessions already came out swinging at Donald Trump earlier this week, making clear that no such assistance is coming. Sessions recused himself a long time ago because he doesn’t want to go to prison to protect Trump. It’s not just that Trump tried to phone a friend, and that the proverbial line went dead. It’s not even that Trump called a “friend” who will never, ever help him. It’s that Trump seems to think he can get out of his no-win corner by treating it like a reality show. In any case, Trump is about to get voted off the island.
