Kellyanne Conway has surreal meltdown
Now that the walls are closing in on him in real time, Donald Trump has yet another problem: he has hardly anyone left to send out to there to defend him. Rudy Giuliani is on an ill-timed overseas trip (though he still managed to screw up). Sarah Huckabee Sanders swung and missed during her press conference. So in a sign of true desperation, Trump sent Kellyanne Conway onto to CNN to try to steer the narrative in his direction.
So how did things go? Suffice it to say that “Kellyanne Conway” quickly became a top trending topic on Twitter, and not because people were impressed with what she had to say. Kellyanne seemed to know that she was in a no-win situation from the start, as she tried to fill the entire interview block with a stream of nonsense so she wouldn’t have to face too many questions.
But host Chris Cuomo was more than happy to interrupt Kellyanne’s blathering and force her to face some tough questions. That’s when her responses began to take on particularly surreal quality, even by “alternative facts” standards. At one point she claimed that CNN “interfered in the election” by daring to report on things that were true, such as the Access Hollywood tape. Eventually Cuomo had enough of it and said “You should admit [Trump is] lying, and you don’t, and that’s why people don’t trust you.”
We all know the Kellyanne Conway routine by now. Whatever she and her team are accused of, she simply makes up a false claim that it was actually the opposition doing the same thing. But tonight was over the top, even for her. If she was attempting to muddy the waters by selling people on disinformation, no one was buying it. As this week goes on and the news keeps getting worse for Donald Trump, we’re seeing that there is simply no way for anyone in his camp to spin things in his favor.
