Donald Trump has deranged meltdown about Michael Cohen

After Michael Cohen cut a plea deal yesterday and named his former boss Donald Trump as an unindicted co-conspirator, Trump was so taken aback that he couldn’t even bring himself to address the situation last evening when he came face to face with a group of reporters. Nor did he mention Cohen during his rally last night. But this morning he decided to make up for it, and then some, with a meltdown about Cohen that was equal parts revealing and deranged.

At first Donald Trump tried to make light of the situation – or at least we think that’s what he was doing, because if this tweet was meant to be a serious insult, it was less than optimal: “If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!” But Trump couldn’t simply leave it there.

Trump went on to post this much darker, stranger, and more accusatory tweet: “Michael Cohen plead guilty to two counts of campaign finance violations that are not a crime. President Obama had a big campaign finance violation and it was easily settled!” To be clear, Trump’s position is now that Michael Cohen randomly wandered into a courtroom, pleaded guilty to things that weren’t even crimes, and the judge just went along with it. Also, we don’t recall Obama having illegally paid off any mistresses while he was running for president. Then there’s the fact that he could have gotten away with “pleads” or “pleaded” or even “pled” but he still screwed it up.

If anything, this reveals that Donald Trump’s distraction and spin efforts are running out of gas. He couldn’t seem to come up with anything worthwhile to throw at Michael Cohen. And his tweet about how it’s still a “Witch Hunt” because Paul Manafort was only convicted of eight felonies? Sad.
