Donald Trump goes to the dogs

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

In the embarrassment of riches that are the myriad felonies, misdemeanors, solecisms, gaucheries, infelicities and improprieties that are the quintessence of the “president” of the United States, it’s easy to miss the odd Donald Trump boneheadism in so vast an ocean of its neon-lit companions. Yet when this loathsome toad, this circus geek of a man, this latter day Falstaff refers to a woman as a “dog,” even the most hardened Trump observer ought to sit up and take notice.

No one, according to history’s most inaccurate human, respects women more than Donald John Trump. Except of course when he doesn’t. And he doesn’t, at least as often as he lies about not doing it. And if the woman in question is a woman of color then so much the worse for her. Consider one of his latest tweets: “When you give a crazed, crying lowlife a break, and give her a job at the White House, I guess it just didn’t work out,” Trump writes. “Good work by General Kelly for quickly firing that dog!”

One hopes that someone out there noticed and registered the irony that a minority of the American people, lamentably assisted by the Electoral College, did in fact give a crazed, crying lowlife a job. And, wow, did it ever not work out. But who among us has heard, outside the biker bar next door to the tattoo parlor, an adult male refer lately to an adult female as a dog?

Who talks like this? And what earthly business does the “leader” of the free world have employing such terms? Calling a woman a dog is not ok. And whatever you may think of the politics and conduct of Omarosa Manigault Newman, she at least deserves better than that.
