Donald Trump is in a “dark place” over the Trump-Russia investigation. Just wait til he sees what comes next.

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. After all of yesterday’s unprecedented fireworks, we learned way down in the sixteenth paragraph of an otherwise mundane Associated Press report that Donald Trump is now in a “dark place” when it comes to the Trump-Russia investigation. Translation: he’s figured out that this is, in fact, going to end badly for him. The trouble for Trump is that he’s too delusional and slow on the uptake to understand just how badly this is going to play out for him.

The developments of the past few days alone, even out of context of the big picture, should be enough to drive anyone in his position into a “dark place.” Donald Trump’s campaign chairman just went on trial for serious crimes, and he’s now expected to be convicted within a few weeks. Trump’s former lawyer is leaking incriminating evidence about him left and right. Trump’s current lawyer just screwed up and revealed that the Trump Tower treason meeting with Russia was far more sophisticated than anyone knew. Oh, and Special Counsel Robert Mueller has one witness, soon to be two witnesses, willing to testify that Trump signed off on that meeting in advance.

Oh, and just to rub it all in, Mueller decided that yesterday would be a good day to go ahead and call Trump’s longstanding bluff about doing that interview together. No wonder Trump was left publicly begging Jeff Sessions, or anyone really, to find a way to bail him out. None of those people will, or even can, help him now. So yeah, assuming Trump can look around at the latest developments and take them at face value, he has every reason to be a in dark place. But that’s before getting to the stuff he doesn’t understand.

Last night we learned that Donald Trump wants to sit down for that interview with Robert Mueller, against the advice of his legal team. He seems to think he can bullshit his way out of this, which is remarkable, considering that every legal observer out there thinks the interview would be the quickest and surest path to Trump’s ouster. That’s before getting to Trump’s inevitable jury trials, on the state and federal level. He’ll probably think he can charm his way out of a prison sentence as well. Trump knows he’s screwed. He just has no idea how ugly it’s going to get for him.
