The real reason Michael Cohen is destroying himself just to take Donald Trump down

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Michael Cohen is now that guy who’s in the process of burning down his own house just to get revenge on a certain houseguest, and even those who want to see it burn are feeling a bit uncomfortable. Cohen, who is facing years if not decades in prison, has begun risking his own already-bleak legal prospects just to try to harm Donald Trump in the process – to the point that former prosecutors are now publicly advising him to shut up and cut a plea deal. It raises the question: why is Cohen doing this to himself instead of cutting a deal?

Hell hath no fury like a loyal fixer scorned, and Michael Cohen is increasingly coming across as a guy who’s more focused on getting revenge on Donald Trump than he is on whatever ends up happening to himself. Cohen is doing damage to his own legal leverage, whether he’s planning to cut a deal or go to trial. It suggests that either he isn’t thinking about the consequences to himself, or he doesn’t care. He wants to hurt Trump, so he’s taking the most direct route. The crazy part is that it just might work.

Thanks to Michael Cohen’s actions this week, the whole world has now heard Donald Trump setting up an illegal payoff during the election like the two-bit thug that he is. Thanks to a story that at least indirectly came from Cohen’s own mouth this week, everyone now knows that Trump signed off on his son’s treasonous meeting with Russian government representatives during the election. This has painted him as profoundly guilty in the eyes of the people out there who have been sitting back and waiting for confirmation as to whether Trump is being framed, as his base claims, or Trump is a traitorous criminal, as his detractors claim.

While it may not be the method that Robert Mueller or the U.S. Attorney’s Office would prefer, Michael Cohen is taking a rather swift blowtorch to Donald Trump – and at a far quicker pace than any prosecutor could ever pull off in a court of law. Perhaps, in addition to his desire for revenge, Cohen understands that the best way to get that revenge is to simply set himself on fire and watch Trump burn.
