Donald Trump throws a tantrum after his failed policies ruin people’s Fourth of July

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

For many Americans, the Fourth of July involves patriotism, fireworks, popsicles, and road trips. That last part requires gas, and plenty of it. That’s a problem, as Donald Trump’s failed economic policies and foreign policies have at least partially caused a huge recent spike in oil prices, prompting a sharp rise in gas prices at the pump. So what’s Trump doing about it? Throwing a juvenile tantrum.

Trump has shown virtually no ability to influence OPEC, as part of his larger overall inability to positively influence any U.S. economic or political ally. Worse, his recent decision to rip up President Obama’s Iran peace deal, while offering no new Iran policy to replace it, has further diminished America’s influence in the region. But Trump now seems to think he can magically drive oil prices lower simply by yelling things.

Here’s what Trump tweeted on the afternoon of the Fourth of July, when most Americans were out trying to enjoy themselves, trying to forget that Trump even exists: “The OPEC Monopoly must remember that gas prices are up & they are doing little to help. If anything, they are driving prices higher as the United States defends many of their members for very little $’s. This must be a two way street. REDUCE PRICING NOW!”

Various observers on Twitter took a moment to make fun of Donald Trump for his bizarre use of a dollar sign followed by an apostrophe. But most commenters were simply angry that Trump’s clueless, corrupt, and failed policies across the board have resulted in skyrocketing gas prices and no way of stopping them from rising further.
