The telltale sign that Donald Trump knows his goose is cooked

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $3360 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Bill Palmer

Donald Trump had a good day today. The Supreme Court handed him a pair of victories which greenlighted some of his obscenely racist and sexist policies. For a historically unpopular “president” with virtually no accomplishments and criminal scandals that are eating him alive, it was a rare victory for him. Here’s the thing, though: even he knows he’s getting his ass kicked overall, and he gave it away in the aftermath.

We know that Trump likes to dishonestly brag and take credit for things that he had nothing to do with. So it wasn’t surprising to see that he took to Twitter tonight to celebrate Republican South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster’s win in the primary race. McMaster was always going to win the primary, and Trump had tried to latch onto him so he could falsely take credit for it. But then Trump went and did something that was out of character even for him.

We’re still trying to parse this Trump tweet: “Wow! Big Trump Hater Congressman Joe Crowley, who many expected was going to take Nancy Pelosi’s place, just LOST his primary election. In other words, he’s out! That is a big one that nobody saw happening. Perhaps he should have been nicer, and more respectful, to his President!” Beyond the fact that Crowley lost, literally not one word of this tweet is true. But here’s the kicker: Crowley lost the Democratic primary to an opponent who is further to the left, and is also a huge Trump hater.

Even Donald Trump isn’t this stupid. Nor is this the kind of lie that he typically tries to tell. Even on a day when he scored two actual victories from the Supreme Court, and a passably fictional victory in the South Carolina race, he still felt compelled to embarrass himself by claiming credit for the fact that a Trump-hating Democrat got taken down by another Trump-hating Democrat. Even Trump knows it’s Mueller Time. He knows he’s running out of time. He’s so desperate and defensive that even on a rare good day for him, he’s frantically trying to invent additional victories in his head. If he thought he were winning, he wouldn’t be doing this.
