Now we’re getting somewhere

You can get ninety percent of the way through nearly any complex project, and it’ll still appear to outsiders that you’re only ten percent finished. Then the externally visible results start rapidly piling up once you’ve turned that corner. All along, the investigations into Donald Trump’s Russia scandal and other criminal scandals have been, well, complicated. But now, as if suddenly out of nowhere, we’re really getting somewhere.

If you’ve been paying attention all along, you’ve known from the start that Paul Manafort was dirty with the Kremlin, Roger Stone was dirty with Kremlin puppet WikiLeaks, and Michael Cohen was just plain dirty in general. But six months after Manafort’s arrest, even though nearly everyone expects him to be found guilty, he’s still awaiting trial. Stone is still out hawking his propaganda books. Cohen is still out there being Cohen. And Donald Trump is still illegitimately sitting in the Oval Office. It’s been frustrating, considering how obviously dirty they all are. That’s all now changing by the hour.

Manafort is now about thirty-six hours away from spending the rest of his life in prison, unless he cuts a plea deal against Trump. Cohen began the process today of cutting a plea deal, after he learned that his arrest is just a few days away. Stone has admitted that, based on grand jury proceedings, he’ll soon be arrested. Suddenly, three people who are each sitting on a treasure trove of Trump’s dirtiest secrets are facing their reckoning all at once.

It’s not clear if Robert Mueller and the other prosecutors involved purposely set things up so that Paul Manafort would go to prison just as Michael Cohen and Roger Stone were being arrested, as part of a shock and awe attempt at pitting them against each other for plea deals, while sending a message to Donald Trump about how screwed he is – or if this is just a grand coincidence. Either way, it’s a clear sign that we’ve reached the beginning of Trump’s end. Now we’re getting somewhere. Contribute to Palmer Report
