Over the weekend, Tiffany Trump surprised us all when she joined most of the rest of the Trump family at Camp David. Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and Donald Trump Jr were all huddled there, plotting… something. With so many Trump scandal bombshells dropping, it wasn’t entirely clear why they were gathered, or what they were trying to fend off. But the clue seemed to be Tiffany’s entirely out-of-place involvement. But things have just become a bit less foggy.

Now we’re learning that Ivanka Trump helped connect her father’s fixer Michael Cohen with the Russians when it came to the effort to build a Trump Tower in Moscow. We’re also learning that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has the emails to prove it, and that he’s investigating. When the weekend began we had just learned that Mueller was trying to flip Jared Kushner’s friend against him. Then Donald Trump let slip on Twitter that he somehow knew Mueller was about to drop the hammer on Paul Manafort. But as it turns out, the Trump family had a more pressing matter: Ivanka.

It’s not difficult to surmise that the Trump family was spending the weekend at Camp David trying to figure out how to deal with this impending bombshell about Ivanka Trump. While these emails alone don’t incriminate her in any specific crime, they do make clear that she was willing to get her hands dirty during the election when it came to Donald Trump and Russia. Does anyone really think there won’t be more to come on this front?

So now it all seems to make sense. Tiffany Trump may not care about Donald Trump, and she surely wants nothing to do with his ongoing criminal schemes and coverups. It’s why her presence at Camp David initially made no sense. But if Tiffany’s half-sister Ivanka Trump was in trouble, and that the family was gathering to try to figure out how to deal with it, that’s a different story.
