The hot new trend in the Trump-Russia scandal: divorce ahead of prison

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. In the midst of a two week vanishing act, Melania Trump is now vaguely hinting – through a friend to an entertainment industry publication – that she’s considering divorcing Donald Trump. We’ll see whether it happens or not. But this is part of a larger trend in the Trump-Russia scandal, and one that offers some real insight into where things may be headed next.

Earlier this year Vanessa Trump abruptly filed for uncontested divorce from her husband Donald Trump Junior. There have been any number of reasons and theories floated as to what prompted this, but here’s the one inescapable detail: she filed the paperwork immediately after Special Counsel Robert Mueller subpoenaed the financial records of the Trump Organization. She then hired a criminal defense attorney instead of a divorce attorney. Did she conclude that Junior is going to prison? Is she trying to secure her share of the assets before they can be seized by the Feds? You’d have to ask her. But she’s not the only one.

Judith Giuliani recently filed for divorce from Rudy Giuliani, her husband of fifteen years. Rudy, whose mouth is stuck in “confession” mode, then told the media that they were planning to quickly split the assets 50-50. Divorces between wealthy people almost never go this way, unless there’s a reason they’re trying to hurry up and get it finalized. Has she concluded that Rudy is going to prison, or that his assets will be seized? Notably, the divorce happened just before Rudy decided to dive in as Donald Trump’s new attorney, in a frantic attempt at sabotaging the entire Trump-Russia investigation.

Divorces happen all the time in America. Sometimes marriages just fail – and Donald Trump has certainly given Melania Trump plenty of reason to want to leave him. But there’s something more to this overall trend. Donald Trump’s wife is publicly hinting about a divorce just as he’s trying to decide whether to testify to the Special Counsel about his criminal scandals. Donald Trump Jr’s wife divorced him before the ink was dry on the financial subpoenas. And Rudy Giuliani’s wife divorced him just as he was deciding that he was in so much trouble, he needed to actively sabotage the Trump-Russia investigation. This is a trend. How many more Trump-Russia divorces are we looking at?
