This is even uglier than I was prepared for
It’s been clear for more than a year that Donald Trump conspired with the Russian government to rig the presidential election in his favor. It’s been clear for far longer that Trump is a racist, a serial sexual assaulter, a career financial criminal, and a mentally unstable individual who is objectively dangerous. I’ve been trying to help expose his various scandals as quickly as possible, the uglier the better, because that’s the kind of jolt required to create the public sentiment needed to force a president to resign. But this is getting so ugly, I’m honestly not sure whether to be a little bit scared.
Let me be clear here: Trump is a goner. I will never, ever try to put a timeframe on his ouster, because politics and the law each have their own overly slow internal clocks. But there’s no longer any doubt that he’s going to be ousted. He won’t finish this term. He won’t come close. He’s toast. That’s not what I’m afraid of. I’m left to worry how deep and wide this is going to run once he’s been ousted. Let me try to explain.
I’m a former AT&T customer, and I know from experience that they’re not an ethical company. But I never imagined they’d get into a criminal conspiracy with a “president” they know to be a traitor. Ford Motor Company, to its credit, turned Trump’s goons away. But now we know that this bribery scandal runs the gamut. Which iconic American brands did Trump manage to drag into the criminal gutter with him? Which of them will even survive this?
Maybe you’re saying right now that you don’t care about the fate of corporations who have sunk to Trump’s level – and you’ve got a point. But we’ve seen just how corrosive his corrupt nature can be. We’ve seen people go to work for him who seemed like halfway decent people, and by the end of it, they were just as hideously corrupt and hateful as he is. His malignant narcissistic sociopathy is the kind that rubs off on others like a communicable disease.
You can make the case that anyone willing to get dragged into the swamp by Donald Trump is someone who deserved to go down anyway. And maybe that’s true. But once this guy is forced to resign, just how much time and effort is going to be required to clean all of this up? Post-Trump, we can put Putin out of business with proper sanctions. But what are we supposed to do with the likes of AT&T?
