The real reason Donald Trump is losing

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The funny thing about political coverage, particularly when it comes to television, is that sooner or later it ends up calling itself out. TV news networks have spent the past few weeks booking the likes of Donald Trump’s attorney Rudy Giuliani, and Stormy Daniels’ attorney Michael Avenatti, as frequently as they can. Some of those same networks have then turned around and called out those guests for appearing too often. But the cold hard reality is that it goes a long way to explaining why Donald Trump is losing so badly.

When TV networks book guests of this type, it’s because they know it’s good for ratings. People tune in to see what the likes of Giuliani and Avenatti are going to say about the Trump-Daniels scandal. But here’s the kicker: people tune in to see Giuliani because they know he’s going to make Trump look bad, by ranting like an idiot. People tune in to see Avenatti because they know he’s also going to make Trump look bad, by laying out facts and insight. While the TV networks may simply be doing this for ratings, savvy participants know how to use it to their advantage.

After Saturday Night Live joked about how frequently Michael Avenatti has been on television of late, he tweeted this in response: “Listen up: Not all cases are the same nor is the winning strategy. Here, the constant media/PR pressure has forced Trump, Cohen, et al. to make a series of huge errors and to make damaging admissions helpful to our case. This was not by accident. And we’re not changing.”

He’s right, of course. Each time Avenatti goes on cable news and pokes holes in Donald Trump’s latest set of excuses and lies, Trump and his team scramble to cover for it, and those panic moves end up making things even worse on Trump’s end. Stormy Daniels is battling Trump in civil court, but as she said on SNL this weekend, she’s doing this because she wants his resignation. She and her attorney are using their civil court battle to get Trump and his goons like Michael Cohen to screw up and harm themselves in criminal court. It’s why Trump is losing this.
