James Comey’s friend hints at impending bombshell in Donald Trump’s Russia scandal

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Benjamin Wittes is a Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institute and the Editor in Chief of Lawfare, but of late he’s come front and center for speaking with the media on behalf of his friend, former FBI Director James Comey. And now, in the midst of a number of breaking Trump-Russia developments, Wittes is teasing an impending bombshell in Donald Trump’s Russia scandal.

Here’s what Wittes curiously tweeted on Monday morning: “tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick” (link). That set off an online feeding frenzy as everyone involved tried to figure out what he knows that they don’t. Shortly thereafter, Wittes went on to expand upon his original tweet: “3 things: 1) Not all ticks are related to Comey. 2) Fuse length remains uncertain. 3) Interesting preemptive defense of collusion happening.” In other words, Wittes isn’t giving up what he knows is coming, but he is spelling out that it’s not strictly related to Comey’s involvement in the scandal. And he’s pointing to the fact that Trump is now trying to fend off charges of collusion, which suggests that evidence of collusion is just around the corner.

In roughly the same timeframe as his “tick tick tick…” tweet, several Trump-Russia storylines emerged. It was revealed that Carter Page has met with federal authorities several times to discuss the Trump-Russia scandal. It was also revealed that Jared Kushner hired a criminal defense attorney, suggesting he now believes he may end up standing trial on criminal charges. And Donald Trump used Twitter to unwittingly reveal that he’s worried he’s about to get exposed for colluding with Russia – all of which we’ve previously recapped here. In addition, Russia suddenly recalled Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, who is believed to have been at the heart of the Trump-Russia collusion.

It all points a major bombshell dropping very soon, perhaps as soon as this week, proving collusion between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia. And whatever it is, James Comey’s friend seems to be aware of what’s coming. Read into that what you will. If you’re a regular reader, feel free to support Palmer Report
