Hillary Clinton intervenes after Donald Trump attacks Mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

After two weeks of doing virtually nothing to help the millions of American citizens in distress in the United States territory of Puerto Rico, Donald Trump has finally decided to get in the game – by posting racist tweets about the Puerto Rican people, and launching sexist attacks against the Mayor of San Juan. After the Mayor made clear she didn’t have time for Trump’s antics, Hillary Clinton intervened.

Trump tweeted “The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump.” If this rhetoric sounds familiar, it’s because we’ve heard Trump talk like this before, when he told Hillary Clinton she was “such a nasty woman” during the debates. San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz‏ simply replied “The goal is one: saving lives. This is the time to show our “true colors”. We cannot be distracted by anything else” (link). That’s when Clinton got involved.

Hillary Clinton quoted the Mayor’s tweet and added “Don’t let anyone make you feel alone. We are with you and Puerto Rico” (link). In that one tweet, Hillary showed more leadership and humanity than Trump has displayed in the entire time since Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico. It served as yet another reminder that the United States would have been infinitely better off if Clinton had been allowed to take office after Trump conspired with Russia to rig the election. Others also stepped in to intervene on the Mayor’s behalf.

Senator Elizabeth Warren tweeted “I just got off the phone with Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz. I told her to keep up her heroic work & leadership on behalf of Puerto Rico” (link). She then added “PR is in CRISIS. US citizens are dying. Millions of people need their govt’s help. Stop playing politics with their lives, Donald Trump.” You can donate to Puerto Rico hurricane relief through the Red Cross) and other charities.
