“Who would ask a man to pledge allegiance under oath?” Donald Trump goes more off the deep end than ever

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Yesterday I wrote that Donald Trump appeared to be having a silent moment of clarity in which even his deluded mind had managed to figure out James Comey’e testimony had defeated him. But I also wrote that in a day or three, Trump would likely forget what he’d learned, and revert to form. Sure enough, the regular Donald Trump is back today, and he’s gone more off the deep end than ever.

After having (wisely for once) said nothing at all about the investigation during the course of Wednesday and Thursday, Donald Trump crawled out of bed this morning and tweeted this bizarre word jumble: “Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication…and WOW, Comey is a leaker!” (link). First off, you can’t leak unclassified information by definition, so Comey did nothing wrong. Moreover, you can’t claim that a man’s words vindicate you, while also claiming that his words are false. But that was just the beginning of the unraveling.

As luck would have it, Donald Trump had a prescheduled joint press conference today with the leader of Romania. Naturally, the media began asking Trump about whether he’d asked Comey for loyalty. At one point Trump blurted out “Who would ask a man to pledge allegiance under oath?” Huh? Does Trump seem to think that he himself was under oath when he was speaking privately with Comey in the White House? What is this even supposed to mean?

And then, after he was asked whether there truly are tapes of his Comey conversations, Trump bragged that he would reveal the answer in a “very short period of time” When reporters pressed him he said they’ll be “disappointed” with his eventual answer, essentially admitting there are no tapes. Then, finally, Trump volunteered to testify under oath before Special Counsel Robert Mueller, seemingly unaware that lying to Mueller is a felony which would sharply increase his odds of ending up getting impeached.
