One of the many remarkable aspects of Donald Trump’s criminal trial is that we are now half a dozen witnesses into the prosecution’s case, and there has only been one instance where we knew in advance who was about to be called. It leaked out that David Pecker would be the first witness, and he was. But ever since then, there has been no advance indication of who was about to be called after that.

Sure, we knew that the likes of Hope Hicks and Keith Davidson would make their way to the stand. And we know that the likes of Michael Cohen, Stormy Daniels, and Karen McDougal are going to end up on the stand as well. But what stands out is that, with Hicks’ testimony and cross examination having apparently wrapped up just as the trial was ending on Friday afternoon, we have no idea who’s about to be called on Monday morning.

Granted, the name could still leak out in the period of time between when I’m writing this you’re reading it. But that hasn’t been the pattern thus far. Alvin Bragg and his team have run quite the tight ship. We can logically guess that McDougal might be Monday morning’s witness, based on how much the last few witnesses have been building toward her story. But that guess could easily be incorrect. For all we know the next witness might be Daniels, or another technical analyst, or someone we didn’t even know was on the prosecution’s roster.

We’ll see who takes the stand tomorrow morning. It’s fascinating that, as this trial goes on, we still don’t know who’s about to show up and pummel Donald Trump next.
