Two in ten?

Not long after he was elected, Donald Trump defected on a promise that he’ll quickly bring prices down, if he brings them down at all. This was hardly surprising, even if he somehow actually did get those powers as president, and it’s likely taking a toll on his approval ratings. Despite the pre-election polls regularly showing Republicans holding an advantage on economic issues, Americans have staggeringly low confidence that Donald Trump will be able to carry through on lowering the costs of living.
As per an AP-NORC poll, it’s 2 in 10 Americans that are very confident he can lower prices within his first year – the time in which Republicans plan to renew his tax cuts, even though they’re struggling at that. The number includes less than half of Republican voters believing that Trump can actually bring down the cost of living, regardless of why they’re arguing their reason for voting the way they did.
It shows that once again, Republican voters were hiding behind what they actually did vote for, but when it comes to voters in the center, it shows that there’s plenty of room for Donald Trump to screw up easily and early on. This creates a solid opening for Democrats to run on economic issues once again, and create a clear contrast between their own policies and the GOP – while giving them ammo to hammer the GOP on in 2025 and 2026.
