Now that Donald Trump’s time in a courtroom is over (for now) and he’s returned to being a senile candidate, it’s easy to forget that his New York criminal trial isn’t done. In fact his sentencing hearing is just three weeks from now. And some factors in Trump’s sentencing are due to come in before that.

For instance, District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his team have to submit a sentencing recommendation ahead of the hearing. Will they recommend prison? Probably. Will their sentencing recommendation become public before the hearing?

The probation officer who interviewed Trump earlier this month also has to submit a sentencing recommendation ahead of the hearing. That should be a doozy. There have already been media reports that the probation officer grilled Trump about a missing gun, which Trump claimed was in his possession in Florida, which would be a bail violation in his other three upcoming trials.

Just because there isn’t any noise right now about Donald Trump’s sentencing hearing, it doesn’t mean that things aren’t in play. The prosecutor and the probation officer are busy taking care of their roles in this, even as Judge Merchan prepares to make the ultimate decision. Trump, meanwhile, can’t do anything but sit nervously and wait. Tick tock.
