Melania Trump’s disappearance becomes even more surreal

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

There are larger and more important things going on than the disappearance of Melania Trump and the unraveling of her marriage to Donald Trump. For instance, the Trump administration recently admitted it “lost” fifteen hundred Mexican immigrant kids that it immorally separated from their families, it hasn’t since said a word about where those kids are. But on a different scale, and for different reasons, the Melania story matters as well. Her vanishing act continues to grow stranger.

It turns out Melania Trump’s people are getting more than a bit defensive when it comes to their inability to explain where she’s hiding, or why she’s hiding. For instance, her spokesperson Stephanie Grisham began dishonestly attacking respected White House correspondent April Ryan on Twitter for no good reason. As the White House continues to be unable to explain what’s happening with Melania or why, and as the media and the public search for answers, it’s led to a whole lot of punchlines, and some odd theories.

The punchlines have been writing themselves. Melania vanished from public view just as a sinkhole opened up outside the White House (no really), which has led to the widespread joke that Melania was digging a tunnel to freedom. There have also been some misfires when it comes to explaining her disappearance. For instance a large number of people on Twitter pointed out yesterday that Melania’s official verified @MelaniaTrump account now lists her location as “New York City,” which some took as a sign that she had moved there.

However, she stopped using her @MelaniaTrump account when she inherited the @FLOTUS account. We checked archive.org, and sure enough, the @MelaniaTrump account has consistently listed Melania as being in New York City for the past several years. She presumably never updated it when she moved to Washington, DC because by that time she had ceased using that particular Twitter account altogether. So no, this is not evidence that Melania Trump has moved back to New York. But this shows the rising level of curiosity about the fact that the “First Lady” hasn’t been seen in public in two weeks, even as Donald Trump and his White House continue to behave more dishonestly and defensively about it.
