In a recent interview “https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/450116-trump-vehemently-denies-e-jean-carroll-allegation-shes-not-my-type” with The Hill, Donald Trump addressed E. Jean Carroll’s disturbingly detailed allegations of rape. His response was disgustingly ignorant, not because he, predictably, denied the allegations, but because of his main reason to support his denial, “Number one, she’s not my type.”

First, as many have pointed out, is he saying that he would rape someone if she was “his type”? Second, even if Ms. Carroll’s allegations were false, Trump once again shows his complete ignorance regarding sexual assault and continues to perpetuate the false narrative that rape has something to do with sexual arousal.

Once again, for those of you who have missed the last 30 years of rape education – it’s not about sex; rape is about power and domination. Even in cases where the man claims to have been confused and “thought” he had consent, it’s still about power and selfishness – exerting your own needs over someone else’s.

When men rape elderly women, or women in vegetative states, they are not doing so because these women are their “type” and they couldn’t satisfy their overwhelming sexual arousal any other way. They do so to dominate and humiliate another human being.

This is not the first time Trump has used a similar defense against sexual assault. When former PEOPLE writer Natasha Stoynoff accused Trump of grabbing her and forcibly kissing her, his response was the eerily similar “Look at her… I don’t think so.” Also, as with Carroll, he denied ever having met Stoynoff, though evidence proves (https://people.com/politics/donald-trump-natasha-stoynoff-photo-proof/) otherwise.

Proving that Trump is guilty of Carroll’s allegations will be impossible without a confession from Trump, which we can be certain we will not get. But we must ask ourselves why should we believe Trump, a man who lies on average more than 22 times per day (more than once per waking hour). Should we believe the denials of a man who brags about taking what he wants and grabbing women by their genitals because he can? I don’t know about you, but when it comes to the kind of person I choose to believe, Trump just isn’t my type.
