Brett Kavanaugh hits the panic button
Note: For those of you who have asked, yes, this photo is upside down on purpose. As the day goes on, things are continuing to get uglier for Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. First his accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, said she was willing to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Then GOP Senator Susan Collins said she wants Ford and Kavanaugh to testify about the incident, which means that it will happen. Kavanaugh is now hitting the panic button.
Brett Kavanaugh has hired Beth Wilkinson of the law firm Wilkinson Walsh and Eskovitz to represent him, according to CNN, which is a big deal for a few reasons. To be clear, hiring an attorney doesn’t mean you’re guilty. But it does mean you expect to be put through the legal wringer. This law firm specializes in defending companies like Pfizer and Philip Morris in class action suits.
In other words, when powerful entities are accused by private citizens of doing horrible things, they hire this law firm. Palmer Report has spoken with a legal expert who interpreted the hiring as Kavanaugh “preparing for the worst case scenario.” On its website, the law firm makes prominent mention of winning trials. Maryland has no statute of limitations on this kind of thing, and as Ford continues to become more bold with her moves, Kavanaugh has to prepare for at least the possibility of criminal charges and a criminal trial.
All ten Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have just now issued a letter calling for Thursday’s vote to be delayed. GOP Senator Jeff Flake, who last night stated that he won’t vote “yes” if the vote takes place this week, is not on the list. But unless the GOP plans to have Ford and Kavanaugh testify within the span of the next two days, delaying the vote now seems inevitable. In any case, it’s telling that Kavanaugh has hired a serious trial attorney; he’s preparing for this to get very, very ugly for him.
