Donald Trump just opened the door for us to win one

As Donald Trump’s approvals begin to unravel and voters are slowly sobering up to the catastrophe that is DOGE, the 2025 election season is very much underway. We’ve got a number of special elections happening at the local level in state legislatures, where Democrats have performed fairly well, but there are two significant gubernatorial elections that take place the year after a presidential election – both in prominent blue states: Virginia and New Jersey.
While the latter has a number of Democrats running in a crowded primary, former Rep. Abby Spanberger is the Democratic candidate for Governor of Virginia and she’s got a sizable lead against her likely Republican opponent, Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, a staunch right-winger who pretty much says aloud every insane thing Gov. Youngkin is already thinking.
A poll in September showed Earle-Sears and Spanberger in a tight race, which indicates that this race could tighten later on as people start paying attention, and there is another Republican looking to jump in the race who was not polled, but right now, Spanberger leads by 15 points in a race where Democrats are fairly united. Youngkin has also decided to stupidly weigh in on DOGE and cheerlead mass firings, which will likely impact Virginia where a number of its residents are government employees.
It’s time to get behind Abby Spanberger and do everything you can to help put her over the finish line – either in the form of canvassing, phone banking or donations, and help Democrats flip another governor’s mansion blue.
