Earlier today, the Deputy Attorney General asked the Department of Justice Inspector General to investigate the newly reported scandal in which the Trump DOJ spied on the personal data of multiple House Democrats.

Sure enough, the DOJ Inspector General has now confirmed that such an investigation will take place, tweeting this from its official account: “Department of Justice Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today the initiation of a Review of the DOJ’s Use of Subpoenas & Other Legal Authorities to Obtain Communication Records of Members of Congress and Affiliated Persons, and the News Media.”

So here we go. This is an important first step in getting the ball rolling in terms of taking down the former (and perhaps current) DOJ officials who participated in this clearly illegal partisan spying operation. There will be far more to be done. But at least we now have official confirmation that the Inspector General is moving forward with it.
